Abstract
Here, we report a case of familial atrioventricular (AV) block. Complete AV block was detected in two of four siblings at 39 and 42 years of age, respectively. All other family members showed normal AV conduction. ECG tracings recorded three years prior to complete block development indicated a first-degree AV block. Electrophysiologic analysis revealed an AH block. The patients with the AV block were found to be identical by HLA typing (positive for A11, A30, B14, B35, Cw4, Cw8, DR04, DR14, and A30). The HLA type of the other family members (with normal AV conduction) included the A2, Cw7, and DR12 alleles. In contrast to our findings, several previous reports have suggested a relationship between familial AV block and HLA type (including the A2, B39, Cw7, and DR12 alleles). Thus, the possible correlation between one’s HLA type and familial AV block requires further investigation. (Korean J Med 75:S854-S857, 2008)
