Acute emphysematous cholecystitis is an unusual form of acute cholecystitis and presents the classic radiographic findings. We could diagnose this case by abdominal CT without difficulty on the basis of typical gas shadow within the gallbladder wall. We performed a staged procedure for the treatment. The patient underwent percutaneous cholecystostomy for decompression and then laparoscopic cholecystectomy without any complication. The relevant domestic literatures on the subject were also reviewed.(Korean J Med 70:S173-S177, 2006)
