Abstract |
Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic bone disease in the world, yet osteoporosis associated with pregnancy is an uncommon and potentially serious condition that can lead to back pain and fracture. A 30-year-old female presented with back pain of 1 month after delivering her baby. She was hypercalcemic and the urinary excretions of calcium and deoxypyridinoline were elevated. There was a suppressed serum level of parathyroid hormone. The radiographic images showed multiple compression fractures in her spines. Her symptoms and signs resolved with anti-resorptive medicines.
To the best of our knowledge, no case of pregnancy-associated osteoporosis with hypercalcemia has been reported in Korea. We report here on such a case along with a review of the related literatures.(Korean J Med 71:S1025-S1029, 2006)
