Abstract |
Gluteal compartment syndrome includes acute renal failure secondary to rhabdomyolysis and sciatic neuropathy. Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome is an acute infection, and its complications generally improve. Hence, the peripheral nerve complications caused by compartment syndrome that occurs in a hemorrhagic fever patient with renal syndrome have not yet been reported on.
A 44-year-old man was referred to our hospital because of fever, hypotension and oliguria. He had rhabdomyolysis, gastric bleeding and renal failure. He had a seizure during hemodialysis for his azotemia. His mental state was comatose for 4 days, and then his mental status and renal failure were improved. Although his other complications improved completely, he could not walk due to weakness of both lower extremities, and especially the ankle dorsiflexors. His electromyography shows sciatic neuropathy. We experienced a case of gluteal compartment syndrome in hemorrhagic fever patient with renal syndrome, and we report on this case along with a review of the literature.(Korean J Med 71:S1054-S1059, 2006)
