Abstract
A gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is the most common neoplasm (mesenchymal tumor) of the gastrointestinal tract. GIST can occur in any region of the gastrointestinal tract. However, colorectal GIST is relatively rare. The common manifestations of colorectal GIST are abdominal pain, bleeding, a palpable abdomial mass, and weight loss. Urinary symptoms such as dysuria, frequency, and acute urinary retension are very rare and are a late development after progression of the rectal GIST. We report two cases of rectal GIST initially misdiagnosed as prostate cancer that presented with dysuria and urinary frequency.(Korean J Med 72:S143-S148, 2007) Key Words : GIST (gastrointestinal stromal tumor), Rectum, Prostate
