Abstract
Xanthogranulomatous pancreatitis is an uncommon benign inflammatory disease of the pancreas characterized histopathologically by extensive lipid-containing histiocytes. It has been mistaken for a periampullary malignancy due to pseudocyst formation with peripancreatic infiltration. A 29 year old woman was admitted to our hospital with a symptom of epigastric pain. Radiological findings suggested chronic pancreatitis combined with pseudocyst. A pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PPPD) was performed. On surgery the pancreas showed a grayish brown necrotic appearance. It was pathologically confirmed later as xanthogranulomatous pancreatitis. We report here a case of xanthogranulomatous pancreatitis.(Korean J Med 72:S171-S174,2007) Key Words : Pancreatitis, Xanthogranulomatous pancreatitis
