Abstract
Coccidioidomycosis is a fungal infection that's acquired by inhalation of the arthrospores of Coccidioides immitis. It is an endemic disease found in the southwestern part of North America. However, numerous cases have now been reported in nonendemic areas because of the high-infectivity rate of the fungus and also because of increased tourism. In the endemic areas, coccidioidomycosis is a one of the important diseases in the differential diagnosis of solitary pulmonary nodule. We reported here on a case of pulmonary coccidioidomycosis that manifested as solitary pulmonary nodule in a Korean man who had lived in Arizona, and his condition was misdiagnosed as tuberculoma. In addition, we summarized the clinical features of the 10 reported cases of coccidioidomycosis in Korea. Clinicians should be aware of the possibility of coccidioidomycosis in patients with a history of visiting areas where this disease is endemic.(Korean J Med 72:S206-S210, 2007) Key Words : Coccidioidomycosis, Tuberculoma, Diagnosis
