|
Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is an autoimmune disease characterized by isolated thrombocytopenia without splenomegaly. Klinefelter's syndrome is the most common genetic cause of male infertility, and has been reported to be associated with autoimmune disease. We were presented with a patient who was diagnosed primarily with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura and subsequently with Klinefelter's syndrome, which suggests an association between Klinefelter's syndrome and autoimmune disease.
We report the first case of Klinefelter's syndrome in a patient with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura in Korea, and discuss the association between ITP and Klinefelter's syndrome with reference to the current medical literature.(Korean J Med 72:S241-S243, 2007)
