Abstract

Ischemic colitis is a disease of the elderly that usually causes low abdominal pain and intestinal bleeding. The clinical spectrum ranges from mild to severe forms. In most cases, broad-spectrum antibiotics and conservative management results in an excellent prognosis. We report a case of ischemic colitis in the ascending colon complicated by pneumatosis intestinalis and a colonic stricture that was treated by surgical resection. (Korean J Med 75:S745-S750, 2008)
