Abstract
Metastases account for only 2~3% of solid tumors of the pancreas, and the most common primary cancer that metastasizes to the pancreas is renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Of the patients with localized RCC, 20~30% relapse after radical nephrectomy. The mode of spread of RCC to the pancreas is controversial and may be either hematogenous or lymphatogenous. The prognosis of RCC metastatic to the pancreas is better than that of primary pancreatic adenocarcinoma or metastases to other organs. Since peripancreatic lymph node involvement with pancreatic metastasis of RCC is uncommon, isolated pancreatic metastases from RCC can be managed surgically, which should be considered in all patients in whom complete resection of disease is possible. We report a case of metastatic RCC of the pancreas in a 74-year-old man who presented with abdominal discomfort and aundice and had undergone a right nephrectomy for RCC 7 years earlier.
