Abstract
Orbital myositis is characterized by inflammation of the extraocular muscles. Patients with this condition present with acute or subacute orbital pain, diplopia, conjunctival injection, ptosis, and proptosis. The possibility of orbital myositis should be considered in patients who show extraocular muscle dysfunction1). The common causes of orbital myositis are infection, Graves’ disease, Wegener’s granulomatosis, and autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren’s disease, and rheumatoid arthritis2-4). Undifferentiated connective tissue disease (UCTD) can also cause orbital myositis, albeit very rarely. At present, physicians cannot easily pinpoint the specific autoimmune disease underlying UCTD. In this report, we describe a case of orbital myositis in an 18-year-old woman who presented with UCTD5).
Key Words: Orbital myositis; Undifferentiated connective tissue disease
