Abstract
Chylothorax is the accumulation of chyles in the pleural space. It results from either obstruction or laceration of the thoracic duct. It has recently become easy to verify damage using computed tomography and lymphangiography. The most common causes of chylothorax are neoplasms and trauma. This report describes a case of a woman who presented with bilateral chylothoraces after a severe cough. She had been coughing occasionally during the 2 months before admission. She was admitted because of left neck swelling that developed 3 days previously, after severe coughing. A diagnostic thoracentesis was conducted, and the aspirated fluid analysis showed chyles. Because conservative treatment worked well for her symptoms after day 3 of admission, treatment was terminated without the need for surgical ligation on day 8 after admission.
