- Abstract
- Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is a rare inflammatory disease characterized by diffuse or scattered eosinophilic infiltration of the gastrointestinal tract. Furthermore, it is rarely associated with eosinphilic infiltration of gallbladder. A 30-year-old man was repeatedly admitted to the hospital with recurrent biliay colic. An endoscopic ultrasonograpy revealed sludge of gallbladder, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed. Histological examination of the cholecystectomy specimen revealed no calculus, and marked eosinophilic infiltration of the gallbladder. There was no peripheral eosinophilia and history of allergy. The patient became asymptomatic. However, one month later he presented with a new type of epigastric pain unlike the previous ones that he had. Additional biopsies of the stomach and duodenum showed focal mucosal eosinophilic infiltration, and it was diagnosed eosinophilic gastroenteritis in conjunction with eosinophilic cholecystitis. The patient was treated with prednisolone (1 mg/kg) and improved.(Korean J Med 69:S758-S762, 2005)
