- Abstract
- Duodenal varices are an unusual site of gastrointestinal hemorrhage in the patients with portal hypertension, but account for 1~5% of all variceal bleeding. Bleeding from duodenal varices are often severe and life-threatening. Treatment for bleeding duodenal varices includes endoscopic variceal ligation, endoscopic sclerotherapy, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS), balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration (BRTO) and surgical resection. We report a case of duodenal variceal bleeding controlled by microcoil embolization during TIPS.(Korean J Med 70:S123-S127, 2006)
