- Abstract
- Fascioliasis is a zoonotic helminthiasis caused by Fasciola hepatica, the sheep liver flukes. Human are accidental hosts in the life cycle of the parasites. Its occurrence is common in tropical area, western America and Mediterranean region, while rare in Korea. Fascioliasis initially involves the liver parenchyma and then the biliary ducts. To date, there have been a few reports of biliary fascioliasis, but the case diagnosed by percutaneous transhepatic cholangioscopic examination is few. We report a man with cholangitis which was finally proved to be due to Fasciola hepatica infestation of common bile duct by percutaneous transhepatic cholangioscopic examination.(Korean J Med 70:S194-S198, 2006)
