- Abstract
- Among various causes of malabsorption, blind loop syndrome has been rarely reported in Korea, to our knowledge. Here, we
report a 63-year- old woman with hepatitis C virus-associated liver cirrhosis who complained of abdominal distension and
abnormal serum biochemistry, which were caused by blind loop syndrome related to abdominal surgery in her childhood.. Her
laboratory findings showed an iron deficiency anemia, hypocholesterolemia, hypoproteinemina and hypoalbuminemia. Her
laboratory findings were confounded with those of liver cirrhosis. She received resection of the blind loop segment of the small
intestine, and her abdominal symptoms and abnormal laboratory findings were improved, although not completely normalized due
to liver cirrhosis. Key Words : Malabsorption, Blind loop syndrome, Liver cirrhosis, Surgical resection
