Abstract
Background Although the risk factors of coronary heart disease have been analyzed frequently in Korea, There is no data about differences between acute myocardial infarction and angina pectoris in their risk factors. There would be some differences of risk factors between acute myocardial infarction and angina pectoris. We analyzed baseline characteristics, risk factors among patients who have undergone coronary angiography (CAG). Method A total of 1046 patients (621 males and 425 females) who have undergone a coronary angiography (CAG) from 1st January 2000 to 31st December 2003 were analyzed retrospectively. According to the diagnosis, the patients were classified into 2 groups, myocardial infarction and angina pectoris. The analysis involved diagnosis distribution, the differances of risk factors, coronary angiographic characteristics of acute myocardial infarction and angina pectoris. Result The serum homocysteine, the prevalence of history of more than one pack smoking per day were significantly higher in myocardial infarction group than angina pectoris group ( OR 1.059, 95% CI 1.000˜1.120 p=0.049,OR 3.471, 95%CI 1.636˜ 7.362, p=0.002 respectively ). However the serum triglyceride level were significantly lower in acute myocardial infarction group than angina pectoris group (OR 0.996, 95% CI 0.994˜ 0.999, p=0.016 ). The coronary angiographic findings were more severe in acute myocardial infarction group than angina pectoris group. Conclusion Serum triglyceride level, homocysteine level, history of more than one pack smoking per day history and more severe coronary angiographic findings are significant differences between acute myocardial infarction and angina pectoris. Key words: acute myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, risk factors
