Abstract
Esophageal perforation can be caused by trauma, malignancy, iatrogenic injury or a variety of benign diseases. Esophageal perforation due to either compressed air or blast injury to the esophagus is reported to be extremely rarely. Moreover, if we overlook conditions that result from failure to treat the patient properly, very fatal outcomes can arise. We recently experienced a case of esophageal perforation caused by incidental inhalation of compressed air to the mouth, and this was accompanied with development of pneumothorax and pnemomediastinum. Fortunately, the patient was rescued with successful surgical treatment.(Korean J Med 71:S919-S923, 2006)
