- Abstract
- Common clinical manifestations of Salmonella typhi infection are enterocolitis, typhoid fever, bacteremia, localized infection and an asymptomatic chronic carrier state. Splenic infarction is a rare complication of S. typhi bacteremia.
Tansient anti-cardiolipin antibodies have been found in association with a variety of infections and thromboses. We describe here a case of S.typhi infection with transient anti-cardiolipin antibodies in a 33-year-old female with multiple splenic infarctions. The patient presented with fever, general weakness and a palpable tender spleen. She recovered with treatment with intravenous antibiotics. Three months later, anti-cardiolipin antibody was no longer detectable in the serum of the patient.(Korean J Med 72:S156-S159, 2007)
