Abstract
Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is an enterically transmitted, non-enveloped, positive-sense, single-stranded virus. It is a frequent cause of acute viral hepatitis in India, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Africa, and Central America. Several cases of acute hepatitis E have recently been reported in non-endemic countries. In Korea, clinical HEV infection has traditionally been rare, but 4 reports have recently described 11 domestic and 2 imported cases. We describe a case of acute hepatitis E in a patient with recent travel history and now report it as an influx from the endemic area.
