- Abstract
- Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly malignant tumor with worldwide significance. The survival time after the onset of symptomatology averages less than 4 months, usually due to the advanced stage of the tumor when initially diagnosed. However recent improvements in diagnostic imaging and earlier detection have increased the number of patients eligible for surgical resection. Long-term survival has also been reported after intra-arterial chemotherapy, as well as in untreated patients. Spontaneous regression of HCC is extremely rare. We present a case of a 65-year-old man, who was a heavy alcoholic and presented with a liver tumor. We diagnosed the tumor as HCC during spontaneous regression by imaging studies and changes in tumor markers. He did not receive any other therapeutic modalities.
