- Abstract
- A 55-year-old immunocompetent man presented with worsening epigastric pain that developed after he had been drinking alcohol
heavily for a few days. He was admitted to our hospital with the diagnosis of alcoholic ketoacidosis based on his laboratory
profile. About 34 years earlier, he had undergone a subtotal gastrectomy to treat obstruction of the pyloric channel. Endoscopic examination
of the gastrointestinal tract showed yellowish elevated polypoid lesions on the gastric side of the anastomosis site and biopsy
specimens revealed cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection with severe chronic inflammation histopathologically. The main reported
endoscopic feature of alimentary tract cytomegalovirus disease is ulceration. We report a case of CMV-associated polypoid
lesions, which is a rare endoscopic finding, along with a brief review of the literature. (Korean J Med 77:S1115-S1118, 2009)
