Abstract |
Small bowel neoplasms are uncommon and intussusception in adults is an unusual cause of bowel obstruction. Neurofibromas of the gastrointestinal tract are usually associated with neurofibromatosis type 1, but they could be rarely solitary. We experienced a case of small bowel obstruction associated with ileo-ileal intussusception caused by solitary neurofibroma. The patient was diagnosed as a small bowel obstruction based on a simple X-ray and a CT scanning, and underwent a small bowel segmental resection including the mass and anastomosis. We histologically confirmed that as a neurofibroma originated in submucosal Meissner's plexus of the ileum. We report a rare case of solitary ileal neurofibroma with review of the literatures.(Korean J Med 69:S767-S771, 2005) |
